Gov Haslam Doesn’t Want Teachers To Be Able To Defend Students Against Gunmen

Virginia Tech Shooter Cho Seung-Hui

In light of the recent school massacre in Connecticut Governor Haslam still maintains that educators in Tennessee, at all levels, should not have the ability to defend themselves against similar attacks.

From the article:

Haslam said he still believes schools and universities should be able to bar their employees from bringing their gun to work, a position that has put him at odds with some Republicans in the state legislature. Haslam said his focus would be on reviewing the state’s mental health services.

I don’t know a lot of legislation that I’ve seen would have stopped what happened there, [CT school massacre]” Haslam told reporters Monday.

UPDATE: Apparently speaker Beth Harwell thinks teachers and school children should be defenseless too:

House Speaker Beth Harwell said she’s unsure what effect last week’s massacre in Connecticut will have on gun laws next year but said she’s opposed to the idea of letting teachers carry guns into the classroom.

“I think it would be asking way too much of our teachers for them to be armed in a classroom, and I’m not in favor of going down that route,” she told reporters on Capitol Hill Wednesday.

Corker Gets Worse Firearms Grade Than Democrat Candidate

The Gun Owners of America (GOA) advocacy group has graded Senator Bob Corker a "C" on the right to keep and bear arms. This grade is the result of his awful voting record, especially as it applies to 2nd amendment. issues.

Screenshot from GOA's website

GOA is a non-profit lobbying organization formed in 1975 to preserve and defend the Second Amendment rights of gun owners. GOA sees firearms ownership as a freedom issue. Campaign for Liberty Honorary Chairman Congressman Ron Paul has described GOA as "The Only No-Compromise Gun Lobby In Washington, DC".
